Age: 35-44

Career Journey:

Joe Raines' journey into the outdoor experience industry began with his passion for adventure and the great outdoors, which he discovered through Scouting. Preferring hands-on activities to classroom learning, he pursued a career in outdoor education, working as a climbing instructor for a charity. Following redundancy, Joe used his £2000 payout to establish Joe's Bows, offering archery lessons to schools and youth groups from the back of his Vauxhall Zafira. The business quickly expanded to include other target activities and falconry experiences, now operating under the Kent Falconry Centre brand. In 2014, Joe seized the opportunity to open a dedicated experience day centre in Faversham, which has since become a thriving hub for outdoor adventure and wildlife experiences.

Key Skills and Expertise:

Joe has developed a diverse skill set through his years in the industry, including exceptional customer service, interpersonal skills, and administrative expertise. His deep understanding of animal management and behaviour allows him to deliver engaging falconry experiences. Additionally, his proficiency in running target courses, managing competitions and ensuring the highest standards of safety and engagement, make him a leader in the field of outdoor activities and tourism.

Career Highlights:

A standout moment in Joe’s career was flying a Lanner Falcon to an astonishing height of 1600ft, with the bird reaching speeds of over 100mph in front of a captivated audience. This adrenaline-fuelled experience demonstrated his skill and confidence in handling birds of prey. Over the years, Joe has provided falconry displays at prestigious events across the South East, including the Kent County Show, Big Cats Festival, Penshurst Place, Tractorfest, and Lympne Castle. Joe takes great pride in the thousands of events and shows he has attended, delivering five-star experiences that leave a lasting impression on visitors.

What Joe Enjoys Most About His Job:

Joe’s greatest joy comes from educating others and watching guests enjoy their experiences, whether it's hitting their first target in archery or interacting with a bird of prey. He thrives on meeting new people and sharing his enthusiasm for the outdoors, animals, and adventure. Every day brings a new opportunity to inspire and engage, making his work both fulfilling and exciting.
