While furloughed from her previous job, Kate joined her wife and dog on a canoe paddle down the River Stour. Captivated by the beauty of the river and the serenity of the experience, she applied for a part-time role at Canoe Wild, helping with the transportation of canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. By 2021, Kate’s passion had grown, leading her to a full-time role as a Seasonal Activity Assistant. Over the past five years, she has expanded her skills, becoming a Standup Paddleboard Coach, delivering Paddle UK qualifications, and coordinating the company’s paddle courses and events.

She has gained extensive knowledge in the safety and rescue aspects of paddling and has developed specialised skills in stand-up paddleboarding. Kate is particularly adept in creating engaging, unique paddlesport experiences and in leading teams to deliver exceptional outdoor adventures to participants of all ages and abilities.

A major highlight of Kate's career has been contributing to Canoe Wild’s transformation from a general hire service to a leading provider of unique paddling experiences. Under her coordination, Canoe Wild now offers popular events like seal-spotting kayaking tours at Pegwell Bay and Beaver Photography workshops. Kate also takes pride in the personal growth of team members, seeing many start their journey with Canoe Wild and go on to become key figures in the paddlesport community, including captains of university kayak clubs and instructors for sea kayaking and bushcraft courses.

She finds it especially rewarding to create memorable experiences for participants, whether it's guiding them on a paddle or leading events that showcase the natural beauty of Kent.
